Le Tour de France vient à Huddersfield

Bonjour! It's not very often that something as spectacular as the Tour De France comes to Huddersfield. Usually my town is very sleepy and lacks any excitement. This week it was completely opposite - the town centre was thriving, there was live music, food and dance and everyone was in high spirits. Last night we drank frozen daiquiris in the town square watching a sing a long 'Mama Mia' that had the crowds dancing from their seats and today was spent queuing for one of the worlds most popular sports to descend upon our streets. It was a thrilling weekend to say the least.

We spent almost two and a half hours waiting along the road side for the famous Tour De France cyclists to drive by. During our waiting time, we were treated to the Tour De France Caravans that are pretty much promotional vehicles for UK and French brands. Joining the Tour De France fun were Haribos, McCains, Fruit Shoots and in true Yorkshire style, we had our very own Yorkshire Tea van throwing samples to the crowd. It was a long wait and me and my partner took to selfies to occupy our time - our selfie even ended up on local newspapers website, The Huddersfield Examiner.

Two and a half hours later, we were finally given the opportunity to see the worlds greatest cycle race on our doorsteps. It was an overwhelming experience and gave many people the feeling of being proud to be from Yorkshire. The Tour De France this weekend firmly put Yorkshire and even my hometown Huddersfield on the world wide map. I never thought I would be that intrigued by cycling, but this weekend has been the most fun I have had in a long time. The day that the Tour de France came to West Yorkshire will be a day I will remember for the rest of my life.

Did you watch the Tour de France this weekend?

  2. What a beautiful day you had! Gorgeous dress too by the way, I have to admit I've had my fill of sports on TV (I'm not against it in the slightest but I'm just not that into it) so I've not seen any of the Tour De France and I doubt I will to be honest. Your day out looks fun though :)
