I have always loved travelling and when I was younger I was lucky enough to take many trips to mainland Europe, but also spend a lot of time travelling around the UK. While my friends with slightly more affluent parents jetted off to places like Canada and Australia, I saw a lot of England, Wales and parts of Scotland. Growing up spending so much time 'staycationing' in my own country made me into a very proud Anglophile. I love climbing up castles, chips and ice-cream in pretty seaside villages, walks in the countryside and in general exploring what makes Great Britain great.
As a travel blogger it is pretty much expected of me to be writing about a new country every week and showing off all the places I've been to, but the truth is I haven't been to many places out of the UK because I never had the opportunity until I got my job after university. I'm lucky enough now that I'm able to fly out of the UK every now and then, but I do appreciate this isn't the same for everyone, hence me spending a lot of time developing a staycationing guide on my blog that gives people travel inspiration whether they are wanting to fly as far as Thailand or simply drive an hour in the car on a sunny day in England.
This year alone I've visited a lot of places in the UK that I hadn't visited before such as Guildford, Stratford upon Avon, Northumbria and Newcastle and I'm sure by the end of this year that list would have doubled, if not tripled. I learnt so many great things about British literature, history and even seen a lot of truly wonderful British scenery. My aim on my blog is to make travel accessible to all and show that you don't have to travel miles to have a relax and have a new change of scene. I hope you enjoy coming on the journey with me.
Do you like staycations?
Staycations can be great - as long as it's planned very well. Sometimes it's cheaper to fly places for a day than it is to get the train somewhere relatively local these days!!
ReplyDeleteI love staycations, I think exploring your own country is great although sometimes it can be as expensive as going abroad x
ReplyDeleteI think staycations can be great and I know a lot of people that do them now instead of going abroad. We decided last year to start to do more of this country, we are off to Cornwall at some stage.
ReplyDeleteThere's so much to see here in Britain! I really love Scotland and the Lakes, but there are so many gorgeous parts of the country and so much history & culture to discover ♥

Staycations can be amazing, we can take for granted what's right on our doorstep with good planning and research x
ReplyDeleteThis is a great perspective. I think it's really fun finding out about cool places that aren't far from home.
ReplyDeleteI live in Canada and I also love traveling across Canada, besides my travels abroad. I do both, within and outside Canada, and this year alone I have traveled to US and Europe, but also to a few places in Canada. I have an RV, so it makes a lot of sense to me to see as much of Canada as I can.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, I enjoyed reading it. :)

Yes! I do love staycations. I think they're necessary sometimes ;)
ReplyDeleteThere is so much to see and do where I live that I don't always get to do those things. So it's nice to stay here and enjoy the scenery and festivals we have.

I love staycations, it is less hassle to plan and can be done last minute. Also no confusion with payment for items haha. I really need to visit more places in the UK!

I find that Staycations are such a nice way to get away for a long weekend, I'm not one to travel abroad much at all so I'm glad to see someone promoting good ol' Britain :) xx
ReplyDeleteGreat to read that you visited Newcastle, I live near there and Northumberland is one of my favourite places in the world! xxx
ReplyDeleteI have been lucky enough to see a lot of the work, but there is much of the UK that I haven't seen, so I am all for a staycation!
ReplyDeleteI love holidays in england, I am going down to cornwall next week and I am so excited x
ReplyDeleteI really want to explore places close to me as there are so many places I have yet to visit.
ReplyDeleteI love a staycation! Actually we're going camping in Devon this week - there's so much beauty in our own country, it seems a shame not to experience it :)
